Independent, sourced, correctable

Workflow

Records move from draft, to review, to publication. Researchers can draft and propose; only editors publish. Every change is kept as a revision that can be inspected and restored.

Use of AI

AI may help extract information from sources, match records, detect duplicates and draft text. AI output always begins as an “AI draft”, linked where possible to the sources it relied on. It never publishes automatically, and unsupported historical claims are not published. A person reviews and takes responsibility for everything that appears here.

Independence and advertising

Advertising and sponsorship, where present, are clearly labelled and kept apart from editorial content. No sponsor can alter an interpretation, an evidence assessment, a research finding or the presentation of a source. Sponsored editorial material is always identified as such. The map, research tools, methodology pages and sensitive records carry no advertising.

Privacy

Analytics are privacy-conscious and do not track individuals. No advertising or tracking scripts load without consent where consent is required.
